CLEAN HULL
PROJECT

In partnership with

THE SMARTEST WAY TO OBTAIN A CLEAN AND FAST HULL

In The Clean Hull Project we explore alternatives to traditional antifouling.  Our aim is to achieve fast and clean eco-friendly hulls without compromising on performance.

The accumulation of heavy metals on the seabed is high and the ecological situation in the Oslofjord is critical. The largest concentrations of heavy metals is found along the shoreline close to harbors and marina and is in large linked to current antifouling practices.
Heavy metals all have in common that they never disappear – they accumulate. Heavy metals have a chronical effect on organisms. If we want more life in the fjord, we need less heavy metals.

When boat hulls are cleaned onshore, organic material and old antifouling paint is removed. Today’s practice allows for direct emissions to the sea and sediment. We analyzed the wastewater content, and the findings are alarming.
